The Christmas season always brings with it the craziest shopping experiences. Mall counter lines get really long, traffic gets really bad (even worse than it normally is), and it can be hard when you have to buy more gifts that you can keep track of.
Fortunately for us 21st century pinoys, we have countless mobile apps at our disposal. And as mobile apps have done with a lot of other aspects of 21st century living, there are apps which make Christmas shopping easier and more convenient.
For the Christmas shopping drive or commute
Metro Manila folk know how bad traffic can get during peak or rush hours and it will get even worse during the Christmas rush. For commuters, there’s always Grab or Uber. Book a taxi or a private car to get to your shopping destination, or to go home (with your christmas gifts in tow). You can also use Uber Pool for cheaper fares but likely longer travel time.
There’s also Waze if you’re driving your own vehicle. The app comes in handy especially in a time when alternate routes can help you avoid traffic jams and get home faster, or arrive at a shopping establishment before it closes.
For easier mall shopping
Ayala Malls, SM, and Robinsons are the three biggest shopping mail chains in the country and all three have their own mobile app. Ayala Malls launched the A-Portal app earlier this year and it allows users to browse mall directories, get the location/contact info of shopping and dining establishments, as well as mall promos and events. Users can even book a Grab ride within the A-Portal app.
The SM Supermalls app functions similarly as it also has mall maps, mall directories, and establishment info. It even has a parking locator which will help shoppers find parking spots quicker.
Lastly, the Robinsons Malls app is a little older (first released in 2014) but is no slouch in terms of features, which are more or less on par with its Ayala Malls and SM counterpart.
For shopping from home
There’s also the very convenient option of buying gifts from home (or wherever you are basically) with the use of apps from Lazada and Zalora. The two aforementioned online stores have a large list of products across many categories like gadgets, fashion, and appliances among others. Both Lazada and Zalora deliver items relatively quickly and offer cash-on-delivery as a payment option for those without a credit card (or prefer not to use it online).
The OLX app is also a viable option if you’re looking for gifts which usually aren’t found in malls or online stores such as personalized items, rare memorabilla, or pre-owned items.
For keeping track of Christmas gifts
Any note-taking app can be used to list down and keep track of the gifts we need to buy. However, there are actual gift listing/tracking apps such as Christmas Gift List or Santa’s Bag which take it to the next level and allow users to enter names of family and friends, assign specific gift items to them (and whether they’ve been bought), and track the item costs and gift budget (among other neat features).
