Earlier this week, it was reported that National Telecommunications Communication (NTC) has blocked popular pornography sites such as Pornhub and Xvideos in an effort to stop the spread of pornographic images or videos which have children as the subjects. As defined by Republic Act No. 9775 or the Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009, children are persons below 18 years of age (or over but due to disability are unable to fully take care of themselves).
Back in day 1 of ESGS (E-sports and Gaming Summit) 2016, I was able to take part in a media-only playthrough session for PlayStation 4 exclusive The Last Guardian. The once mythical title, delayed countless times and originally in-development for the PlayStation 3, is finally releasing on Dec. 6th, 2016. The game is the third title from Sony Japan Studio’s Team Ico (now known as GenDesign), and is a spiritual sequel to PS2 classics Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
As a hardcore fan of video games growing up and as someone who’s always enjoyed writing, “video game journalist” was my first dream job. I collected video game magazines such as Expert Gamer, Gamepro, Game Informer, and Independent PlayStation Magazine (PSM). During the 90s however, there were no local publications that covered video games and my dream job of playing video games and writing about them for a living seemed like a pipe dream.
Santa Monica, California’s Naughty Dog Inc., developer of famed video game titles such as the Crash Bandicoot series, the Uncharted series, and The Last of Us, is arguably the crown jewel in Sony’s Worldwide Studios – a group of renowned studios dedicated to developing games exclusive to PlayStation hardware.
We are living in a truly digital age and this allows us to do almost anything online. From booking flights or cab rides, bank transactions, buying and selling used items, and even finding rooms or apartments for rent halfway across the globe. This online empowerment also allows us to work from the comfort of our homes, free from the hassles of a daily commute and an office job with co-workers we may or may not like.
San Pedro Laguna, a city right next to Biñan which is where I’ve lived for most of my life. Being back for the first time in a while, I felt a sense of nostalgia as I walked across Pacita Complex during a scorching hot afternoon in late April. I used to pass by this area on my way to work or on my way home. I worked in game development back then. And during that time, I wouldn’t have believed anyone that said there was an actual game development studio in San Pedro. Even now I still find it unusual, mainly because of how far it is from the lot of game development offices in Makati or Ortigas. However, the uncommon location isn’t a problem for San Pedro-based Ranida Games. In fact, the small team that produced the breakout hit Philippine Slam (formerly PBA Slam) is making a name for itself faster than Steph Curry shoots threes.
